Background story on these beans:
Direct trade from 'La Nogalera', a family owned farm named after the Nogal tree. These beans are hand picked to ensure top quality by a family that has been producing coffee for generations. The farm is located in Andes, in a village called Alto Cañaveral. La Nogalera has approximately 7,000 coffee trees. The farm is located at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level.
Farmer Cesar Hernán Hoyos Gallego grew up in a family that truly values their ancestry, culture and the lands they tend to. He credits his parents for instilling in him such a passion for coffee. All of his siblings are also coffee producers, even though it is a 24 hour a day job and extremely hard work. This isn’t well recognized by the everyday coffee consumer. Before owning his own coffee farm Cesar worked as a coffee picker for years at other farms in the region.
During harvest season Cesar and his wife wake up at 4am every morning to take care of the farm. It’s difficult for them to get coffee to town since they do not have a car or mules. In order to get to the Chiva (public transportation) in town they have to carry the coffee on their shoulders for nearly 30 minutes. How is that for a fitness/adventure inspired coffee!! Even the producer of the RX ROAST is grinding it out and carrying heavy weight.
Cesar is quoted as saying, “This is why I believe not anybody could be a coffee producer, I think it must come in your blood.”
